Deep cleaning check list may include various items depending on your home style, the weather, and other factors. However, there are certain similarities between all these lists, whether you plan to clean annually or spring cleaning. keeping the list more brief and simple, makes it more practical, it doesn’t have to be daunting or overwhelming!
Consider our top list of general tasks in your deep cleaning routine to maintain the fresh look of your home with less effort.
Washing Curtains
When it comes to deep cleaning your home, washing the curtain could be on top of the must-done list, and if you do not know how to wash your curtain, it will get you a disappointing result. There are numerous varieties of fabric and material for curtains, it is important to read the care label to find out how to wash them properly without any potential damage or discoloration.
Fortunately, most fabric curtains are machine-washable. To prevent tangling and complete cleaning, wash each curtain separately. You may need to wash delicate fabrics like silk by hand; fill a basin or bathtub with lukewarm water and a small amount of detergent. Wash the curtains gently in the water, then rinse or use the delicate cycle in your washer based on the instructions on the care label.
Next, if the care label allows, use the dryer on the lowest setting. Then, pull them out and hang them while still slightly damp to minimize wrinkles. If wrinkles are still there, use a hand-held steamer or use a regular iron. To avoid shiny strips or unexpected stains while you are ironing, Set the setting on low heat and iron the curtain on the reverse side of the fabric.
Deep Clean Your Windows
Once you take down the curtain, it is the perfect time to clean the windows. Cleaning windows can make a significant difference in the appearance of your home and increase the amount of natural light that enters your room.
First, remove dust with a dry microfiber cloth or a duster. Then, wet the entire window with a sponge or soft cloth, including the glass, frames, and sills. Allow the solution to soak for a few minutes to loosen dirt and grime. Then, gently scrub the window from top to bottom.
Next, place the squeegee blade on the glass and pull it horizontally across the surface in a straight line. To avoid any stain, wipe the blade with a clean, dry microfiber cloth or paper towel following each stroke. If any streaks or water spots remain on the glass, wipe them off using a dry microfiber cloth.
Repeat the same cleaning hack on the other side of the glass until it reaches a spotless surface.
Wipe Walls and Doors
Wiping the walls can help keep your home looking clean and fresh. Consider wiping the walls at least once a year or every second year, as a part of a deep cleaning routine. If you are a pet owner or have a smoker in your home, you should work on it at shorter intervals.
Remove any subjects or decorations from the walls to better access for cleaning. Before wiping, remove dust from the surface with a cloth or clean microfiber mop.
Now, you need to know what kind of paint you have and if it can tolerate cleaning. choose a cleaning solution that is suited for the wall and paint type. First, test the solution in a small area to make sure it doesn’t cause any damage or discoloration.
Then if it works well start wiping from the top of the wall and wipe the surface in a circular motion.
For stains or marks, you may need to apply a bit of pressure. For getting better results I recommend using a melamine foam eraser.
Once the walls are clean and rinsed, dry the surface with a clean microfiber cloth to avoid streaks and wet spots.
Dust
Microfiber cloth is the main key in dusting. Effective dusting involves more than just quickly wiping surfaces. To dust properly, you only need an all-purpose microfiber cloth and, in some cases, a good vacuum cleaner with dusting attachment tools.
Begin dusting at the highest point in the room and work your way down, vacuuming any dust that has fallen on the floor.
Lastly, dispose of collected dust in a sealed trash bag to prevent it from spreading inside your home again.
Vacuum
To reach a dust-free home, dusting and vacuuming work hand in hand. Dusting should always be done before vacuuming to ensure that all dust is removed.
When you’ve finished dusting, empty the vacuum cleaner’s dustbin or replace the vacuum bag with the new one to keep dust from being redistributed into the air. Choose the proper vacuum attachment for the surface that you’re cleaning. use a (rotating) motorized brush attachment for carpets and rugs or a corner brush for vacuuming the edges.
Finally, use the vacuum cleaner’s attachments to clean hard-to-reach places like upholstery, stairs, and curtains. A powerful vacuum with efficient attachments can do the task perfectly for you.
Mop
Before mopping, vacuum the entire floor for a dust-free and clean surface. Then, divide the floor into smaller sections and focus on cleaning one section at a time.
Select a mop suitable for your flooring. Microfiber mops generally work well for most surfaces, whether ceramic, hardwood, or vinyl plank floors.
There are tons of cleaning solutions. Use a wood cleaner if you have a hardwood floor. For tile, a mild all-purpose cleaner diluted in water is usually sufficient. To clean grout lines, use a grout brush or an old toothbrush to scrub the grout lines and remove any built-up grime.
EXTRA TIP: Use NEUTRAL PH FLOOR CLEANER for VOF floors. They will not leave a residue and keep your floor clean longer.
Cleaning and Shampooing Rugs
The type of dirt or stain, the material of the rug, and the size of it, all affect how to clean your rug properly. Always follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions. Vacuum both sides of the rug to remove all dirt and dust.
Consider treating any stains or spills on the rug immediately to keep them from settling. A wet vacuum can be life-saving in these cases, especially if the rug is not waterproof.
Waterproof rugs can be deep-cleaned with shampoo and hot water.
After washing your rug, let it completely air dry. Hang the rug outdoors or lay it flat on a clean surface, ensuring enough ventilation. Do not put the rug in direct sunlight, as it can cause colors to fade.
As a final care step, use a soft brush or a rug rake to fluff up the fibers to bring the rug’s appearance.
If your rug is large, heavy, or made of delicate materials, do not take a risk, hire a professional rug cleaner.
